From Hebden Bridge follow the A646 towards Todmorden. Turn left up Woodhouse Road (opposite Big D's pub). Follow this to its end, turn right along Lumbutts Road, and park opposite the Shepherd's Rest inn. The Dam is at the end of a steep, poorly defined footpath up the hill opposite.

By public transport, Todmorden station is well serviced by trains from both Leeds and Manchester. From Todmorden bus station, catch the Mankinoles Circular (either the T6 or the T8) which leaves at seven minutes past the hour, to the Shepherd's Rest.

Gaddings Dam is surrounded by moorland, and visitors are advised both to wear suitable boots and clothing, and to consult the OS map (South Pennines).
